I would like to define a movable (dynamic) shading device above the balcony parapet in Honeybee and evaluate its impact on the thermal comfort of the balcony.
Which components should I use in the latest versions of Honeybee and Ladybug Tools to achieve this?
You should give us more details about movable (dynamic) shading device such as diagram/ product image.
Hi
In my current research, I am studying the effect of smart dynamic shading devices on the energy consumption of an indoor space adjacent to a balcony.
These shading elements are designed to move vertically — adjusting their height intelligently from just below the ceiling of the upper-floor balcony down to the top of the parapet.
I would like to ask:
Which Honeybee and Ladybug components would you recommend for modeling such movable shades
I think it’s better to share the gh file and the screenshot of your work for anyone to understand your problem
I aim to evaluate the effect of this smart dynamic shading system, positioned above the balcony parapet as shown in the image, on the energy consumption within the interior spaces of the building.
@mary You likely will want to use energyplus ems to accomplish the task at hand, fortunately there is a detailed example of using ems for shade control found here
you would input your ems script on the add_str_
input on the simulation component

@TrevorFedyna Thank you for your response.
But the EMS approach demonstrated in the PurchAirWindowBlind example is suitable for the simple control of an interior blind, which operates by switching between two states: “open” and “closed.”
@mary with further research into documentation you will find that you can manipulate exterior shades as well.
