HB-Energy Zone Mech vent flow > 0 despite setting to zero

Hi all,

I’m trying to model a zone with no mechanical ventilation, and yet I see a flow (and mech vent load) in the results. Clearly I’m missing something, somewhere.

I’ve used HB Apply Load Values to set all internal gains and ACH to zero (infiltration included), and when I check if this works it appears to be zero for Flow per zone, per person, per volume, per floor area, absolute.

Yet, within the results, I see a flow for mech vent (infiltration though is 0, as desired)

Is there somewhere else I need to ‘turn off’ mechanical ventilation?

Thanks!

Can we get the file?

Is the space still conditioned with an ideal air system? In that case, you are probably going to still get that E+ output telling you that there is mechanical ventilation but it’s just re-circulated heating/cooling supply air and not outdoor ventilation air.

Actually, I thought about this more and it’s possible that you’re still getting outdoor ventilation air if you are using the Honeybee default ideal air system, which includes an air-side economizer. This introduces outdoor air whenever the space needs cooling and the outside air temperature is lower than the room air.

You can turn it off by using the NoEconomizer option on the HB IdealAir component. Then, I think it’s possible that you’ll see that E+ output drop to zero and the space cooling demand should rise because you will be cooling the space via air recirculated over a “cooling coil” rather than using cool outdoor air to do it.
