Hi!
I am writing to seek clarification on implementing Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) in a simple model built with Honeybee (LBT 1.9.16), EnergyPlus (24.2.0) and Ironbug. I have a model with three empty rooms. Two of these rooms are being assigned an MVHR system with the following specifications: efficiency 0.8, temperature setpoint 21°C, infiltration equal to zero and natural ventilation equal to 0.01527. I implemented the MVHR based on the methodology outlined in your previous post. However, I have encountered two issues regarding the flow rate parameters:
- I observed that if I set the Ventilation rate in the room’s Program Type to zero, the mechanical ventilation system does not appear to function, even when the system’s Minimum Outdoor Air Flow Rate is set to a non-zero value. Should the Program Type Ventilation be set to zero for the mechanical system to be the sole provider of outdoor air? And if so, why does setting it to zero appear to disable the mechanical ventilation?
- Changing the OAFlowRate (setting it higher than the Program Type’s Ventilation rate) significantly affects the results. What is the precise role of the OAFlowRate parameter within the mechanical system controller? Does this parameter explicitly overwrite or supersede the outdoor air requirements defined by the Program Type’s Ventilation when determining the system’s actual flow rate?
Thank you in advance!
