Yea, that is what I personally do when I am trying to model these types of cases. A lot of the time, I change the operable skylight to something like this since it’s actually truer to how a lot of these skylights get designed for rain protection:

I think that you’ll probably find that the differences between splitting with air boundaries or not does not significantly affect the results. The AirBoundaries are basically modeled as huge holes in the wall for the purposes of the AFN. I would say that you don’t really need them but I don’t think that you’re doing a whole lot of harm by having them there.
