Fatal Error in Dynamic thermal simulation

Hi everyone,

I am running a dynamic thermal simulation to assess the impact of bio-based materials on summer thermal comfort in a residential building. For this, I set up five variants of the same building with different construction systems. Four of the five variants run without issues, but one of them fails with a fatal error.

In LBT 1.9.5, the error is:

Severe CalcHeatBalanceInsideSurf: The temperature of 83195.04 C for zone="…", for surface="…" … is very far out of bounds during warmup.

The only difference between this failing variant and the others is the ConstructionSet and the material definitions of some walls assigned with the “Guide by Surface” component. I double-checked the material properties and they look correct, so I am not sure what is causing this error.

Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong or what I should check next?

I would need a sample file to know if this is happening for your case but this E+ error can sometimes happen when you have the sun beating down on a construction with zero mass.

If you used a lot of materials made with HB Opaque Material No Mass in your construction set, maybe throw some materials made with HB Opaque Material so that you have some thermal mass there to absorb all of the heat falling on the surface.
