Fixed construction thickness for retrofitting

Hello all,

I’m currently trying to simulate retrofitting scenarios by adding additional insulation layers of different thicknesses to an existing Exterior Wall Construction.
By doing so Honeybee reduces the net indoor floor area because a thicker construction is subtracted from the gross area of the modeled zone. This makes it impossible to compare the performance of different scenarios.
In DesignBuilder there is an option to set the wall thickness to a fixed value so that every additional layer is added on the outside so to say and not reduce the net floor area.

The only option I see right now is offsetting every BREP that represents a retrofitted zone by the thickness of the additional insulation layer so that the net area then stays the same for each scenario.

Is there any other way that doesn’t include remodeling?

Kind regards,
Til

Hi @til_sommer, you could adjust the conductivity of the insulation layer rather than the insulation thickness to maintain the same floor area.

Cheers,
Charlie
