Following on from our TMY release, we’re excited to announce that Future Meteorological Years (FMYs) are now available on ClimateDataForBuildings.eu — giving practitioners a free, simulation-ready way to design for the climate buildings will actually face, not just the one they were built in.
The problem: standard weather files (TMYs) are built from historical measurements, sometimes 30+ years old, while a building designed today will still be standing in 2080. FMYs close that gap by applying climate-change projections to the historical baseline, producing an hourly weather file for a specified future period and emissions scenario — ready to plug straight into existing simulation workflows.
The release provides:

FMYs for mid-century (~2050) and late-century (~2080), across multiple emissions pathways (CMIP5 RCP4.5/RCP8.5 and CMIP6 SSP1-2.6 through SSP5-8.5)

Coverage of 5,000+ European locations

A model-selection process that evaluated a large pool of global and regional climate models and used only those shown to reproduce summer and winter conditions across Europe satisfactorily

Full consistency with our existing TMY dataset — same reference period, spatial resolution, and methodology, so today’s and future climate files are directly comparable for the first time
