Hi!
I’m working with a building which air to water heat pump works both for space heating and ventilation. I have modelled a plant loop which works correctly, but I’m struggling with adding a ventilation system. When I connect a component ZoneHVACEnergyRecoveryVentilator to a Group Equipment and than the Thermal Zone to the Plant Loop with NoAirLoop, there are no errors, but this component doesn’t have any coil. I’ve looked at multiple ventilation components that can be connected to the plant loop, but I couldn’t find any with heat recovery. Does it mean it has to be modelled as an Air loop? And if so, how do I connect it correctly?
I’ve tried following scripts from Hydra - Sharing made easy! but what I’ve modelled doesn’t work.
You should work from the sample HVAC systems that are accessed through the Ironbug Template HVAC component rather than Hydra. The Hydra samples are really old at this point.
To answer your question, yes, I would recommend modeling this system that you describe with an air loop. The Zone HVAC Energy Recovery Ventilator only does direct ventilation with the outdoor air through a heat exchanger and so it cannot condition the ventilation air to a neutral temperature with a heating or cooling coil.
The type of air loop that you want to model is a DOAS since that can have a heating and cooling coil in it to condition the ventilation air. I recommend looking at the FCU+DOAS template to see how to set this up.
To model the heat recovery in the air loop, you should use a “Air to Air Heat Exchanger Sensible and Latent”. This will let you set the effectiveness of the heat recovery.
