Inconsistent error codes & bugs with Ladybug/Honeybee/Radiance - "The system cannot find the file x or y"

Hello dearest insects,

I’m running into an issue I’ve never had before with Ladybug/Honeybee:
I’ve been trying to run a daylight analysis. Ive done hundreds and by now have developed an intuition with what can potentially be an issue, but this time I’ve no clue.

  • I get inconsistent error codes: sometimes the annual daylight component will tell me it hasn’t found a particular program.exe in the C/Radiance directory. That file is present, although when I double click it, it says its not present.

  • Sometimes I get further down the “calculation chain”, and another program.exe appears to be missing. This same script which worked friday is giving me trouble today.

This is what I’ve tried so far:

  • complete reinstall of ladybug tools (first uninstalling with the provided component), then finding the latest and installing.
  • Complete reinstall of radiance, daysim, openstudio. Checked ladybug compatibility matrix with latest iterations.
  • Checked with my IT derpartment that a local or decentralised antivirus wasn’t blocking the specific files, or general radiance/ladybug tools file directories. They are not.
  • Checked with IT that no updates/or major OS changes happened since last week. They assure me nothing changed.
  • Anything ChatGPT proposed.
  • Checked that nothing was “blocked” (Id love to think im not a noob anymore lol, although obviously im at fault somewhere?)

Here’s the funny thing: I decided to clean reinstall everything on a “virgin” computer we have at the office, to check if it wasnt something related to my own PC. First simulation ran fine, I pushpulled a single volume face and ran again, and now nothing works. Not even on new geometry, new file, etc.

I havent touched ladybug tools in 30 days or so, but last time I used it I had no running issues. Sure sometimes my window surfaces were flipped and I got 0, etc but never a major component run issue like here. Once again, even before I “updated” the components, or fresh reinstalled them, I still had the same issue and had run hundreds of simulations.

Below is one of the errors I got from the annual daylight component (once again, the missing files differ sometimes, although it seems like the .exe files it looks for and cannot find happen increasingly “early” in the calculation chain.

Runtime error (ValueErrorException): A Radiance installation was found at C:\Radiance\bin
but the Radiance executables are not accessible.
The system cannot find the file C:\Radiance\bin\rtrace.exe.
