Ladybug 1.9.0 Installation Issue

Hello,
I’m not really familiar with rhino and its plugins, and I’m trying to install ladybug. However, when i tried to run the ladybug installer grasshopper definition, i encountered an issue that goes like “an attempt to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permission”. I’ve turned my antivirus off, run rhino as administrator, tried downloading the 1.8.0 version and i still got the same issue with different tracebacks. I’ll attach the screenshot below

I would really appreciate if you can help me in anyway possible since I need the ladybug to be installed as soon as possible:smiling_face_with_tear::pray: Thank you so much

Not a direct answer - however i find the single package Pollination .exe much easier - then you know you have all the right dependancies. As long as you have admin permission for the install like any other program. Give it a go.

If you are in China or another place that blocks downloads from certain websites (like Google cloud), then your two options are:

  1. Use a VPN.
  2. Use the Pollination installer as Leighton suggests.

With massive irony, i’m having my own intallation issue…via the Pollination package installer.

This morning i woke up to a bug which upon opening grasshopper - it crashes at the point of loading LBT from this location: C:\ProgramData\McNeel\Rhinoceros\packages\8.0\LadybugTools

I uninstalled and re-installed Rhino 8 + the Pollination package installer “plugins_release_PollinationGHInstaller-1.65.10”. Same problem when running the
GrasshopperLoadByOne cmd.

Next - i rolled back to a previous installation of Pollination; opened grasshopper (yay), then a script which was working fine this week and tried to use the LB Versioner to update to the latest LBT 1.9.10.
This led to the below error message upon restarting rhino:

“LBT Plugin: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path ‘C:\Program Files\ladybug_tools\grasshopper\dragonfly_grasshopper’ is denied.
at System.IO.Enumeration.FileSystemEnumerator1.CreateRelativeDirectoryHandle(ReadOnlySpan1 relativePath, String fullPath)
at System.IO.Enumeration.FileSystemEnumerator1.MoveNext() at System.Collections.Generic.List1…ctor(IEnumerable1 collection) at System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(String path, String searchPattern, EnumerationOptions enumerationOptions) at Ladybug.FolderHelper.<>c__DisplayClass20_0.<GetFilesByType>b__2(String _) at System.Linq.Enumerable.SelectManySingleSelectorIterator2.MoveNext()
at System.Collections.Generic.List1.InsertRange(Int32 index, IEnumerable1 collection)
at Ladybug.GH.Loader.Ladybug_LoaderInfo.LoadGrasshopperComponents()

I’m wondering if this is a specific dragonfly issue which is asking for admin rights permission to create a folder (working at a company which blocks admin rights).

My understanding is that the installation of Pollination circumnavigates this admin rights issue? Or at least it does for Honeybee/ladybug but not for dragonfly?

I’m working on an older LBT version now - but thought i’d post here to make you guys aware; just incase its something more structural.

thanks as always
