Sorry for not responding to this a few months ago. You are correct that you should not get a cryptic exception message like this. I just addressed this over here:

Thanks for bringing this up, @Pranav_Prasad, @Ni7cksurf , and @ajassoi . Even though these are all cases where you will not be able to build a complete load balance because you are missing the het flow through the envelope, you should not be getting a cryptic message like “Need more than 4 values to unpack.” It looks like I introduced the possibility of getting this message when I added the option to get envelope loads for detailed faces as I mentioned in the LBT 1.9 release notes.
