PET UTCI Adaptive comfort

Hello everyone. I am trying to understand at pre design stage, the indoor comfort temperature for naturally ventilated building using weather file. I am always confused with PET and adaptive thermal comfort metric . So I have some questions regarding this:

  1. Is PET a indoor comfort metric or outdoor comfort metric? If yes which one should be used adaptive thermal comfort or PET?
  2. If it is an outdoor comfort metric ,which metric is more accurate : UTCI or PET.

I may be asking basic question but would like to understand better from experts here. Thank you.

Hi @Asisnath,
I remember this question all too well as it has been debated intensively.

Instead of asking which metric to use, I would ask which metric is most sensitive to which climatic (or physical) variable.

Please check this discussion that is an excellent debate on the sensitivity of these metrics to different climatic and physical variables.

Hope that helps.

Thanks @devang for this wonderful share. This is indeed an excellent discussion. Though both the metric are debated for use of outdoor comfort studies (as debated on the shared link), Can it be concluded that PET is more of an outdoor study metric rather than indoor.
