Questions on Glare Source Definition in HB-Radiance

Hello everyone! I am conducting glare analysis using HB-Radiance (Ladybug Tools) and would appreciate guidance on two implementation questions:

  1. Computer Monitor as Glare Source
After defining a computer monitor as a Radiance glow source (250 cd/m²), will Imageless Annual Glare automatically include it in DGP calculations?
If not, what specific steps are needed to enforce its recognition (e.g., source tagging/modifier adjustments)?

  2. luminance_fac in “Imageless Annual Glare”
The “luminance_fac” parameter (set to 100 cd/m²) states it filters glare sources based on sky patch brightness.
    Does this threshold:
(1)Apply only to sky patches, or also to artificial sources like monitors?
(2)Have established guidelines for hybrid (natural + artificial) glare scenarios?

Thanks in advance
Elaine

Hi @Elaine,

The method implemented in HB-Radiance is the method created by Nathaniel Jones. You can read about it here. Under Recommendations it says that “Imageless DGP presumes that the sun and sky are the only sources of glare in a space.

For your type of study you probably have to use Point-in-Time View-based and evalglare through HB Glare Postprocess.
