Could you please help me? I would like to know how to determine the exact type of construction used in the UWG when choosing the vintage. How can I obtain this specific construction information accurately?
Hi, I really appreciate your effort and the insights you’ve shared. Unfortunately, when I change the vintage, nothing seems to change in the construction. I’m not sure if this is normal or if I might be missing something. Thanks again!
Hmmm I may have messed up the item selection component, have you tried normal vintage input with panels?
I’m not at the computer right now otherwise I’d check.
Yes, I tried with the panel but without any results. I believe your work is correct (though you can double-check later if you find another method). My conclusion is that the choice of vintage is linked to the climate type and the building program (e.g., concrete/mass, metal/steel). In these cases, the UWG seems to call predefined constructions according to each (vintage, climate, program). However, at the building level, it always appears to default to the base construction. I also tried assigning a construction manually, but when I change the vintage, nothing seems to change.
So there was an error in the item selection component, I missed the quotations around the New = “New” etc.
here is a file with a corrected item selectors not that it matters df_vint_decon_fixed.gh (63.9 KB)
@chris I know you are quite busy but this doesn’t seem like the expected behavior of the components? Perhaps you can shed some light here?
The exact constructions used by the UWG are in the UWG repo if you want to check them out. The excel files in this part are probably the easiest to view:
You can see that they each have a spreadsheet showing properties of constructions for each of the different ASHRAE climate zones and the 3 types of vintages the UWG supports:
All of the recent versions of AHSRAE 90.1 are just lumped into “New” so it is pretty simplified compared to the EnergyPlus constructions and vintages that @TrevorFedyna is checking with the components there.
However, both the UWG vintages and the OpenStudio/EnergyPlus vintages are working from the same DoE commercial reference buildings. So, particularly when you are looking at “Pre 1980” or “1980- 2004”, the constructions used by the UWG and the OpenStudio/EnergyPlus vintages should be pretty similar.
