It’s just for separating surfaces based on their material. In solar-access study for interior spaces it only matters to ensure glass materials do have transparent material otherwise material type doesn’t change the results of solar-access analysis. For exterior solar-access studies all the materials can be set to black/default.
I’m not sure what you mean by this? Nevertheless did you check the error message of material components? What is the error message.
