Solar radiation for different geometries

Good evening,
I’m running a test to see the effect of the surface geometry on the amount of solar radiation that reaches the surface. I created 2 surfaces with different surface geometries and the same surface area. I ran the simulation twice, the first time was by connecting the same geometry to the context to shade itself, and the second time was without the context.
I have 2 issues I can’t understand:

  1. Why the two surfaces are getting different values of radiation even though they have the same surface area?
  2. When I connected the geometry into the context why it didn’t shade itself

I appreciate your help to make me understand that.

@chris Can you please help me with this?

Maybe you have to describe what you were expecting to get since the result seem pretty straightforward obvious to me.

The unshaded geometry without any context has more radiation falling on it. It seems as simple as that.
