Window U-value changes not making into IDF file or affecting EUI

In "Windows Attributes”, when I change my window U-value from a single pane window of 5.8 W/m2K to a high-performance triple-pane windows with a U-value of 0.8 W/m2K, the EUI does not change at all (332.88 kWh/m2). There is no error or warning and so we are wondering how debug whether the window information is even considered?

It turns out the U-value and SHGC are not making it into the IDF file. Every time I change the U-value, a new WindowConstruction is created but only the defined OpaqueConstruction is actually used in the IDF. If look into my IDF, there is no WindowConstruction_28500938. See attached.

Thank you, Gregor

Hi @ghenze ,

I think you just need to generate your apertures first, and then use the ‘apply window construction’ component. If you apply the construction to the room before there are any windows (as you are doing now) - it will not work. So instead, do something like this:

  1. Generate Widows
  2. Apply Window Construction

best of luck with it,
@edpmay

Dear @edpmay ,

Thank you very much for your kind support. I followed your advice and it indeed resolved the issue. With the change you suggested, I am seeing the U-value being applied to the object WindowMaterial:SimpleGlazingSystem as expected.

I really appreciate your generous support!

Best regards, Gregor
