Windows 11 Smart App Control blocks unsigned Honeybee Radiance executables (Ladybug Tools 1.10.0)
Hello Ladybug Tools team,
I am using Rhino 8, Grasshopper and Ladybug Tools 1.10.0 on Windows 11 for an architectural daylight simulation research project.
I am currently preparing an annual daylight simulation for a 600 m² office model using the HB Annual Daylight component.
1. Problem
Windows Smart App Control is currently enabled on my computer.
When attempting to execute Honeybee Radiance, Windows previously generated Code Integrity event ID 3077, indicating that the application was blocked by the enforced application control policy.
The policy name recorded in the previous audit was VerifiedAndReputableDesktop.
2. Executable signature verification
I checked the Authenticode signatures of the relevant executables using PowerShell:
| Executable | Signature status |
|---|---|
| honeybee-radiance.exe | NotSigned |
| python.exe | Valid |
| rtrace.exe | NotSigned |
| gendaymtx.exe | NotSigned |
Relevant SHA256 hashes:

honeybee-radiance.exe:

4. Questions
-
Is it expected that these Honeybee Radiance and Radiance executables are distributed without Authenticode signatures?
-
Is there an officially supported, digitally signed version or installation method compatible with Windows 11 Smart App Control?
-
Is there a recommended way to verify the authenticity and integrity of these executables?
-
What is the recommended solution for users who want to keep Windows Smart App Control enabled while running Honeybee annual daylight simulations?
I would prefer to keep Windows security protections enabled rather than disable Smart App Control.
Thank you for your help!
