Development Version of the LBT Grasshopper Plugin Now Uses OpenStudio 3.3

Hello All,

I just wanted to make an announcement that is only for people staying up-to-date with the latest development version of the LBT Plugin using the “LB Versioner” component. So this does not concern anyone using the last stable release of the LBT plugin (version 1.3.0 directly from Food4Rhino).

We just finished upgrading the development version of the LBT plugin to use OpenStudio 3.3 instead of OpenStudio 3.2, which the last stable release uses. We have updated the compatibility matrix accordingly.

There were a couple of significant breaking changes in EnergyPlus between OpenStudio 3.2 and 3.3, notably the introduction of Spaces as distinct from Zones in EnergyPlus. This means that the latest development version CANNOT run using the older OpenStudio 3.2. However, there were a number of important fixes with OpenStudio 3.3, particularly for users who are running Windows in languages other than English and who previously expereinced encoding errors from OpenStudio like this one.

In case it’s helpful, the last development version that works with OpenStudio 3.2 is LBT 1.3.58. So you can always plug 1.3.58 into the version_ input of the LB Versioner component to get the last LBT version that’s OS 3.2-compatible.

@chris thank you for the update. Does Openstudio app 1.2 still work with OS 3.3 sdk?

Hi @Asisnath ,

No, it does not unfortunately. The OpenStudio Coalition is working to publish a new release of the OpenStudio App that will be compatible with OpenStudio SDK 3.3 and should be visible here within a week or two. We won’t do a stable release for LBT 1.4 until it’s published.

If you need to keep using a version of LBT that’s compatible with the OpenStudio Application, you can use LBT 1.3.58 for the next week or two as I noted above.

FYI @Asisnath , the OpenStudio Coalition just published a new version of the OpenStudio Application (v 1.3.0) last night:

So you can now open the OSMs from the latest LBT development version in that OS App version.
